The Petitions.
The petition against the license for Aberdeen House is as follows :— That the said house has not the accommodation required by law and is therefore disqualified from having a license attached to it. That the licensing thereof is not required in the neighbourhood. That the premises are in the immediate vicinity of a place of worship. That the quiet of the place in which such premises are situate will
I be disturbed if the license be granted. Any other objection by law to be taken against the granting of the said certificate. This certificate is signed by the names we published in ouv last issue with the addition of the name of A. S. Easton. . _ I ' The petition against Mr Spelman 's house is similarly worded with the * exception that instead of a church a school is mentioned. The following is a petition for granting a license to Mr Spelmari : — We the undersigned ratepayers or adult residents within the Licensing District of Foxton do hereby request that a Certificate shall be granted to enable a License to be issued in respect of a house situate at the comer of the Avenue and Park-street, Foxton, to be known as the Avenue j Hotel, within the said district, for | which a license is! applied for by ' Bernard Spelbian. 'We submit that the present hotel accommodation in Foxton is insufficijent. We have seen the plans of the Avenue Hotel, and we 'Consider tliat its wide passages, good bedroom and other accommodation will be welcomed by the numerous visitors to Foxton, and that the, Hotel, when completed, will will shew a marked contrast for the better to some of the hotel accommodation in the towu. In our opinion there is room for extended improvement in the accommodation of licensed premises in Foxton, and we believe that a well-built and wellarranged hotel will enable a licensee to keep the ■ conduct' of the house better under control. Mr Bernard Spelman is well-known and respected in our midst, and we can confidently recommend him as a fit and proper person to hold a Publican's License.
