The Mayor desired to know' if the Council would give him authority to make arrangements with Mr Hickford for forming portion of No. Line. Cr Ahern considered tenders should he called if over £5 as there were plenty of residents wanting work. Cr Williams believed tenders had been called and had resulted in tenders being very high. He would like to see roads made, but this line was unfenced and persons-' using might be had up for trespass. He tHought Mr Wilson should fence the road in. Cr McPherson would not spend a penny on the road unless the gates were taken off. Or Ahern could not understand how the Motoa estate were allowed the free use of eight acres of land. Cr Williams said he was asked to move a fence he had never erected, off the public road, yet another large ratepayer had never been called upon in similar manner. The Mayor said it seemed an opportunity to get the work done very cheap and the chance might be lost. Cr Ahern said by letting this job privately it was upsetting the rule already laid down to advertise for all jobs over £5. It was left that the Mayor should inform Mr Hickford that tenders would be called for the work.
