Notes and Events.
When wilt 'schoolmasters appreciate the faofc that it is pure waste of time instilling dates into the heads of their pupils? As a writer pointed out the other day, was there ever a man stopped in the streets of London, and suddenly confronted with the question, " What year did Henry VIII come to the throne ?" A man would he considered insane who expected any rational being to burden his mind with such trivialities. Yet the small boy is caned if he doss'nt knotf. . Poor small boy, there is just some consolation left for the " Nipper," not muoh, still better than nothing. A small boy in the year 1065 had less dates to bother with than the one in this year of Grace, or disgrace, just as his knowledge may amount to. Just. as much as the boy of 1065 is to be envied, so will the boy of 1898 be envied by the future poor lad of 4898. Think of the dates be will have to crowd in. For the sake of those following let us urge the dates being left out, and feeep them, as grown men do, in a book to refer to when wanted,
Boys might then bo boy 3 and not a lot* of dictionaries of dates. The boys are sure to agree with this and ftltfo the girls.-
