A Chinese warship, disguised as a trader, killed 40 pirates, and captured 11. The captain of the man ot- war and 25 marines were killed. Captain Dhanis has captured Nyangwe, a. great slaving centre in the heart of Africa, and reports that he has driven the Arabs out of the Congo Free State. Baron Nathaniel Rothschild has presented the City of Vienna with a chateau in the Styrian Alps as a hospital for consumptives. It will accommodate 500 patients, and is valued at half a million sterling. The King of Sweden and Norway, declining to accept the resolution of the Norwegian Parliament in favour of separate consulates for each kingdom, the Steen Cabinet has resigned.
