Foxton Borough Council.

* _ A special meeting of the above Council was held at the Library buildings yesterday at 2. p.m. Present — The Mayor (G. Nye), Crs Austin, Ahem, McPher3on and McMillan. . The Mayor explained that the meeting had been called to reconsider the resolution passed r<? the Wiroki no ferry at the last meeting and to consider the letter of the Horowhenua Council re tolls. Cr McMillan wanted to know what the grounds were for altering the resolution. The Mayor said that Mr Davies had protested against the letting. The Clerk said the Borough Solicitor said he could' not prepare a lease to Bowe as the action was ultra viresCr McMillan thought the course to adopt was to accept the next highest tender. The Mayor said the only course would have been, on Stanley's tender falling through, to have accepted the next tender or to call for new ones. Cr McPherson said the best course was to call for fresh tenders or to accept the next highest tender. Cr McMillan said he did not think he should vote as he might be again led into error. He did not think they could take auy notice of what Mr Davies' said. The Mayor agreed with Cr McMillan that they had fallen into an error and must be careful not to fall into any more. It was proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Austin, That notice be given by the Mayor at the next ordinary meeting that the motion passed on April 6th re leasing the Wirokino ferry to Thomaa Bowe be ! rescinded. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or McMillan, That fresh tenders be called for leasing the Wirokino ferry. Tenders to be in at noon on the Ist of May, the lessee enter on possession on the 3rd of May, from the 3rd of May to the 81st March, 1894. In referring to the request of the Horowhenua Council, the Mayor said ferries were established for the benefit of the travelling public and any reduction should be made that could be. He "thought it advisable to accede to the request of the Horowhenua County. Cr McMillan proposed and the Mayor seconded, That the ferry tolls be altered in the direction of allowing a person and horse to return after 10 pm. for one shilling provided he has already crossed once only during the day.
