Wellington Racing Club.

The actions of the Wellington Metropolitan Club towards the smaller Clubs under its control have not been marked by consideration. It may be of use to this Metropolitan Club to note that in sporting circles its own deeds are not above suspicion as the following sub-leader in the N.Z. Referee shows :— Turning to the latest gathering held in the vicinity of Wellington, that at Island Bay, the crooked element was much in evidence. It is of course out of the power of the executive ot any Club to imbue contestants with pure motives, but when transgressions are brought home they should be visited with the severest punishment. The actors in the flagrant case of pulling which occurred, got off very lightly, for a less oftence others have been ruled off for life. Reversals in form were unnoticed and acts of reprehension passed by without any cognisance being taken. As we have indicated, the sport has not . been established on a very healthy in the Wellington district, and it will require a strong Club, bold to put down wrong doing to revive interest in the pasttime. In this connection we might mention that a third Club is being formed in the Empire City for the purpose of holding trotting meetings, and we are told that a number of influential men are interesting themselves in. the establishment of the new club. We don't pretend to express an opinion as to whether or not there is room for three clubs in Wellington, but we hope the new club will be more fortunate than have been either, the Jiihn.sonvile Hntt County or Wellington Clubs in their efforts to introduce the sport, and make it find favour with the psople. To do this at all effectively there should be the greatest care in tke choicefofl working members and officials, and the owners of horses should as ; far as possible be. deterred from having a voice in the business of the Club, either as . stewards, handicapper.B, starters, or any -official* capacity. 1
