Fatal Affray on Board Ship.
Seel, the first mate, of the barque Annie Stafford, had an altercation at Newcastle, N.S.W., with a negro sailor, who was working aloft, andrunning up the rigging collared the man. It is alleged that the negro drew a knife to defend himself, and Seel seeing this, struck him a terrific blow with the stay-saii-sheet block, hurling him to the deck. The negio died shortly aftevwards. Seel, who has been arrested, is believed to be the man who was recently acquitted at Wellington, New Zealand, on a charge of inciting Fin ley, in connection with the Waterloo quay affray, in which the sailor Greenrose, met his death. . . ...-...' : The coroner's jury brought in a verdict of manslaughter against > eel.
