The Otaki Electorate.
The abov3 very elongated electorate ia stated to contain 8757 voters. The boundaries are roughly as follows i — Take a point from Cape Turakirae which practically is the point where the Rimutaka range touches the sea to the West of Palliser Bay, then you go west along Cook straits to the entrance to Wellitigton harboiir, tlierice aiong the harbour to the boundaries of the Boroughs of Petone and the Hutt northwards, thence to the Taitai and then westwards to Pahautanui taking in Porirua harbour and the island of Mana, thence up the coast, taking in Kapiti on your way, to the mouth of the Rangitikei river, going up the rivei past the Bulls bridge to a'point halfway between that bridge and the railway bridge, thence westwards till a road leading from Halcombe to Bunnythorpe is reached, and then along that road to the- road between AWahuri and Sanson, thence up that road to Awahuri, then down the Oroua river to Oroua Bridge i then across the Manawatu, on the boundary between the Manawatu and Wirikino Road Boards, to the ranges, and along the summit of the j Tararua and the Rimutaka ranges to the starting point, Cape Turakirae. This makes a beautiful strip 95 miles long by about 20 miles wide. It includes Sanson, half of Awahuri, Campbelltown. Foxton, Shannon, Levin, Manukau, Otaki, Waikanae, Pahautanui, Kaitoke, Paremata, Upper Hutt, Taitai, and part of the Lower Hutt. For the representation of this district there are said to be many candidates. It will be viewed as the rich man's happy hunting ground, as the district cannot be said to have much in common. We suppose our present member, Mr J G, Wilson intends seeking re-election though as yet he has made no sign, and may not .before it is too late. Then rumour asserts that two eminent legal gentleman representing opposite politics intend having a fight for the honor, viz., Messrs Izard and Jellicoe. Sir Walter Boiler's name has also been mentioned, but as he is leaving the colony very shortly we should not think he would return to fight such a hot fight as the next election is bound to be. A candidate will have to be very energetic, and to cover the ground he will have to commence very early in the day.
