Kitchen Garden.

. — « _ It is well to remove from the Raspberries all root suckers which are not required, leaving half a dozen or so of the strongest for next year's service. Raspberries are much improved by mulching at this season of the year. If required, Strawberry runners should be layed as early as possible. When they are sufficiently rooted to take care of themselves, sever them from tho old plants, transplant them firmly and cut off all runners. Under this treatment the plants will make good strong crowns, that will bear fine crops of large fruit next year. Very fine strong plants may be secured by layering the runners in three-inch pots, three-parts filled with good soil ; stand the pots level around the plants, and pee? from each ftom six to nine, according to strength, and water when necessary ; and in about a month tHe runners will be in a good condition for trans, ferring to their allotted quarters. If planted at 18in apart, and treaied in , the above manner, a first-rate supply of early fruits will be obtained which

will be ripe before those on older plants,; The ground for this early crop 1 does not rieed the amount; of preparation as do permanent beds, which should always be trenched and heavily manured some good time before planting, so that the soil may settle, the plants delighting in a deep firm soil in a good heart. Superfluous wood or Currant and Goosberry bushes should bo removed, thrts admitting light and air to the fruit and assisting in the ripening of the wood.— Exchange.
