Manawatu County Council.
+_ — The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the Council's office, Sanson, yesterday at 11 a.m. Present— The Chairman (V. C. Ransom) Crs Taylor, Hammond. Bobinson, T. Wilson, Masters and J. G. Wilson. The minutes of the last meeting were vead and confirmed. -On the Keturning Officer declaring Mr Taylor returned The Chairman said he hoped he would render him all the assistance he could and he had no doubt all the Councillors would work pleasantly and amicably together. Cr Taylor thanked the < hairman for his remarks and said he would do his duty well and faithfully and to the best of his ability and if he did so he thought he would do that which would please the ratepayers and the Councillors. The following correspondence was read : — From J. H. Hankins, re Kari-kari road, stating he expected plans daily when matter would be gone on with. Same, re Fraser, stating he had settled the question of compensation with him. Manawatu Eoad Board, forwarding account for £203 15s Id for repairs to Awahuri bridge. 1 Palmerston N. Hospital and
Charitable Aid Board; sending corrected schedule arid requesting p'av mentof £118 13s. Horowhenua County Council, informing Council that the Wirokino ferry land is held under the Public Works Act. 1882, and was proclaimed and gazetted on 2nd January, 1884. R. 0. Clark,- acknowledging receipt of complaint of so many pipes being bi'oken and stating that the mate of the steamer asserted that only one pipe was bioken when they left the steamer at Wanganui, and believed they must have got broken in the shunting. Johnston & Co* stating that the pipes ex Glettelg were landed in good order in Wangatiui. Thomas Wilson, stating arrangements he had made with A nderson for metalling at Shannon. J. A'Court, calling attention to the unrailed state of three small bridges on the Campbelltown-Awa-huri road, stating that two accidents have occurred without serious results. F. J. Carter, asking who is responsible for damage done to property through careless working of the ferry. He had broken a dray axle through the punt not being made secure before driving off. Thy ferryman denies his responsibility. Kindly inform who to look to for the repairing of the damage, the Council or the ferryman. j. Thompson, asking for 25s compensation for clearing gorse on Cemetery road. J. Mathers, asking for 2 months to complete his contract, having been delayed for want of teams. Hugh ClarY, stating he had made arrangements with Mr Thonlpson to clo dori tract on Speedy's line. .1. Thompson, calling attention to the gorse on the cemetery line not being cleared away and thus stopping his contract. H. B. Pollock, wanting to know if the Council would sell the tank, at the corner of Taylor's line. N.Z Railways, sending return of green flax cut by Mr Austin from 27th October to 15th December — 120 tons 4 ewt. Wellington Town Clerk, asking whether it would be possible for the chairman to attend the meeting to be held in Wellington on the 24th instant re Atkinson's statue. A S. Easton, Foxton Co-opeiative Butchering Co., G. S. Pike, W. K. Simpson, Wooven & Nisbett, A. Hight, and John A. Perrett, asking for renewal of slaughtering licenses. G. J. Scott, asking for transfer of sections in Foxton to Robert Austin. R. B. McKenzie, giving notice of his intention to apply for an Auctioneer's license. Dudson Bros, and Robert Gardner sending forms under " The Factories Act, 1891 " R. Austin stating when planting season arrived he intended planting the whole sand drift and no effort should be wanting to stop the Band. The following resolutions were passed : — Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That sections 262, 2(38, 277, and 278, Campbelltown be transferred from John Perrett to Edward Gorton, and that allotments 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, to. 62, inclusive being part of rural section 465 in the Mount Robinson Survey District be transferred from Richard Gray to Mary Ann Austin. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the applications for slaughtering licenses be granted to A. S. Easton, Albert Hight, the Foxton Cn-operative Co., Woolven & Nisbett, R. K. Simpson and G. E. Pike. Proposed by Cr Hammond, se conded by Cr Taylor, That the application of R. B. McKenzie for Auctioneer's License be granted. treasurer's report. The general County Fund is over drawn £185 19* 6d the nett general credit balance is £255 7s 4d. It was decided not to sell the tank at Taylor's line but to move it to the shed at San son. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, That the Overseer report at next meeting upon those who have not cut- their furze growing upon r<mds in the County, to that the f 'ouncil may take action in the matter. Proposed by Or Masters, seconded by Cr T. Wilson, That J. Thompson j be paid 25s as compensation for clearing gorse on Cemetery line the same to be charged to Mr J. Bull. It was agreed to put hand rails on the bridges on the CampbelltownAwahuri road. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the Chairman and Cr J. G. Wilson and the clerk be authorised to go into the accounts and arrange such payment as is neces«ary as regards the repairs to the Awahuri bridge. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr'j. G. Wilson, That John Mathers be allowed two months to finish his contract on- the Foxton-, Sanson road. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, seconded by Or Robinson, That the sum of £272 5s 91 be transferred from the general County Fund to the Awahou Separate Hiding A/c and that from it be deducted the sum of £97 5s 9d for working ex penses from August 1883 the date of merging the Foxton Highway Board

Wilson seconded by Cr Masters. That the tender of Stewart & Cook for the delivery of metal at Howe's siding be cancelled and deposit foifeited. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the action of the chairman in calling for tenders for metal for various roads in the County be confirmed. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That Ben Poole be allowed 4 weeks extension of time • for the bridges on big drain. The Chairman said that it had been decided sometime ago for the County to. work th? train iitlder the supervision of Mi- Cox, and soih'e arrangement had had now to be made tor his remuneration. Mr Cox delivered a statement of the 6 months working of the tram which showed a net profit of £80 12s 2d- Mr Bray had also reported that the line was as in good a state of repair as ever it. was. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That Mr Cox be allowed the sum of £12 10s for the working of the tram to 81st December 1892. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Or Hammond, That the tram be carried on for another six months by the Council. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by O T Wilson * That tenders be called for metalling 39 chains on Speedy's line. Tenders be in by noon at next meeting. Proposed by Or Hammond, seconded by C-v Robinson, That the tenders for Banks & Banks- Waitohi roads be not accepted being too high. Proposed by Or Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, That the tender of M. Boyle be accepted subject to him loading the metal at Rowe's siding and delivering not less than 40 /yds per day after starting Paid contract and that he give the Council 7 days notice of his intention to start the work. Proposed by Cr J. G. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters. That tender for 50 chains of metalling be called {to be in by next meeting on the Cemetery road, to include the cutting opposite Mr Speedy's property. The usual accounts were passed for payment.
