Thursday's Auction.
On Thursday Mr Snelson wil offer the privileges in connection with the Foxton Racing Club's meeting on the 23rd, by auction.. It will be remembered that the C!ub has made a new, and we think, a wise departure this year, by holding a hack meeting on their annual day, instead of the regular meeting. The action was torced on the club by the calm appropriation by the Wellington club, of the day which had for years been admitted as Foxton's right. In despite of this unfair treatment the meeting last year was a grand sue cess, but the prospects of the forth coming one app ar the brightest of any The general public enjoy a good race and large fields, and whether the horses are a'l " Mus kets " or all less well bred animals it little matters as long as there are many and the handicapping good The honorary secretary has received more nominations for the 28rd, than were ever recieved before, the stakes are very large for a hack meeting, the handicapping appears to have been exceptionally well done, and we may therefore confidently look forward to large acceptances. The sale takes place a few hours before the acceptances will be known, which is a distinct advantage to the purchasers as it gives them an opportunity to discount the number We may say the date of the sale is against the wish of the Secretary who feels so confident of the number of acceptances that he believes a later date would secure better prices, but circumstances prevented his wishes being given effect to. The whole of the permanent buildings are in good oider, and the fences secure. Bidders for the grand stand enclosure will be glad to hear that the Club has had the back fence of the paddock boarded up, the need ot which has been so often represented to the authorities by the purchasers of this privilege. The course is in first-class order. The usual train through from Wanganni is arranged for, and, marking the altered conditions of inland communication, a special train will run from Danevirke connecting with the through train at Palmerston. This should make a considerable addition in the attendance. It is hard to persuade purchasers that prospects look bright, as it pays them better to purchase in the duller market, but there should be bris'i bidding and good prices obtained on Thursday.
