Palmerston District Hospital Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Wednesday. Present — Messrs G. M. Snelson (chairman), Purkiss, Ransome, Taylor, Saxon, Park, Goodbehere and Ravenhill. I CORIUtSPONDEITCE; From Dr McGregor, stating that his attention had been called to the manner in which the election of members to represent the Koad and Town Boards in Oroua County on the Palmerston Hospital Board had been conducted, and asking for full particulars as to the mode in which the election was cai*ried out by the presiding officer, Mr Bray, From C. Bray, with reference to the manner id which the above members were elected, and stated that they had been elected by the voice of the representatives present, viz , Mr H. J. Booth, representing the M mv s »r Poid Board with two votes ; Mr T R. Taylor, representing the Kiwi tea Rnad Board with one vote; Mr J. Purkiss, representing the Halcombe Town Board with one vote : Mr W. Kendall, representing the Fitzherbert Road Board with one vote; and Mr W. Ravenhill, representing the Manawatu lioad Board with one vote. Also enclosing copies of resolutions proposed at the meeting ot i*epresentatives showing how proceedings were conducted From Wanginui Charitable Aid Board, stating that the liability re lating to the Williams family referred to in a letter f>rw irded b;- the Secretary on the 2nd September last, wa* mt inclnded in thf statement of account, which together with th*> two ald'tional items of £2 12* and £2 5s 84, to which attention had* since b*en drawn showed a "balance of £149 Is 7d in the assets and liabilities of the Palmerston Hospital Bia "d's district. From same, refusing to accept £149 Is 7d in full settlement of all claims against the Palmerston Hospital Board, as th» North Wairarapa Benevolent Society's claim against the old Board re the Williams' family, had yet to lie dealt with in the Supreme Court, and any liability arising out of this matter would require to be adjusted between both Boards. A long discussion took place on the letters relating to the. election, Mr Taylor maintaining that there was no resolutions prepared before the arrival of Messrs Ravenhill and Kenall. Mr Ravenhill handed in a letter from Dr McGregor, the substance of which has already been pubMshed. Mr Goodbehere considered the B mrd was not in order in discussing the subject as the election had been gazetted. Mr Donald Grant a^ked permission to make a few remarks, and stated he pfcill considered himself a member of thfi Board and that the Feilding election was illegal. He would like an amicable settlement, but it the m^mbor? sill held that every one on the Board was legally elected he would contest it and g<^ to extreme measures. He maintained that it was not for the Government to take steps, but for the rat 'payers of any local body. Tt would be for the Manawatu Board or himself as a ratepayer to move in the matter. Thp Chairman Raid the members wonld hold themselves to be legally elected until it was shown they were not. Mr Grant then stated he would contest the election. The Chairman stated that the sura of £577 7s 5& had that day be«n paid into the Bank to . the credit of the Board's funds, which represented the amount raised byMesdames .-nelson Bichter, Pirani, Buick, and other* working in connection with the Bazaar, etc".; which was increased td £577 7s 5d by a sum of £100, ' pttid into the Bank previously^ When the subsidy from the Government was received on this amount, it ttouldbe icreased to £l6oQor £160& There was still another £70 or £100 to collect. The accounts were in the hands of the Borough Council officers to be audited, and when laid before the Board they would be asked to certify as to their correctness. Mr Park, Treasurer to the Board, said it was a very welcome piece of newa> and he thought it spoke^ volumes for the energy and persistent e&crts made by Mrs Snelsott, who had been ably supported by othei^ ladie3 and gentlemen, especially Jbhe ladies, also for their kindly feeling shown by the settlers of . the . , surrounding districts, who had. con^ tributed to this work. . • Proposed by Mr Taylor* , seconded by Mr Baxon and carried, that the thanks of the Board be given to Mrs Snelson and the other ladies wild have assisted her in collecting the handsome donation of £577 7s fid» and which has been placed to the funds of the Board. — Times. :
