Foxton Borough Council.
The usual meeting of the tibove Council was held at the Library buildings yesterday at 2 p.m. Present The Mayor (G. Nye), Crs Stansell, McMillan, Williams, Ahem and McPherson, The minutes of the last meeting Were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — George Nye — In reference to that piece of land on section No. 378 now used as a public road on No. 1 Line. I may say Councillor Williams interviewed me about the matter after due consideration, and as I have no wish to put the Council to any needless expense, either in making anew road or taking the land under the Public Works Act, I may say I am willing to sell the said piece of land to the Foxton Borough Council for the sum of £12, the Council paying the cost of conveyance. The following resolutions were passed : — Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Wiliams, That Thomas F. Gibson be appointed to make the valuation for the Borough for the present year. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr McMillan, That leave of absence be granted to the Clerk for 14 days from 9th January, 1893. Propospd by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Williams, That the Clerk order the necessary timber for floodgates in Duck creek. Proposed by Or McMillan, seconded by O? Williams, That this Council assist the Foxton Dramatic Society in their endeavours to hold an entertainment early in February in aid of tbe Palmerston N. Hospital funds. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr McMillan, That this Council discuss the advisability of acceding re the request of the petition presented to them in November last by G. Nye, Esq., re taking over drain. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr Stanaell, That this Council as a whole form a committee to inspect the drain referred to in the petition on the 17th instant. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr McMillan, That the half holiday according to the Factory Act be held on Tuesday. Proposed by Cr McMillan, seconded by Or Williams, That the Ranger resume his ordinary duties from this date. Proposed by Cr seconded by Cr McMillan, That Mr Nye's application be adjourned until a full meeting of the Council. Not carried. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr Ahem, That Mr G. Nye's offer be accepted for part section 370, deviation of road, for the sum of twelve pounds. j The Mayor here left the chair, and i Cr Williams was voted to his place. \ warm discussion ensued and a division take.i which resulted as follows : For the motion, < )rs Ahem, Williams, and McPherson.
