A Wonderful Microscope.

A Munich institution has' made a magnificent microscope for the World's Fair, at a oosb of $8750. An electric current supplies the light, which, placed at the focns. of a parabolic aluminum reflector, reaches an intensity of 11,000 candle-power. Electricity also centres the quadruple condensers by an automatic mechanism. The heat generated by the intense light makes necessary a cooling aparatus, which is an electrically regulated machine, liberating a fine spray of fluid carbonic acid from copper reservoirs, in which this substance is stored under a pressure of 23 atmospheres. So great is the cold produced by its vaporisation that the carbonic acid used need not exceed in quantity four of five grains per hour. With ordinary objectives, the highest magnifying power of the instrument is about 11,000 diameters, but with the oil immersion this may be increased to 15,000.
