The Racing Conference.

The 'adjourned meeting of the Racing Conference was held at the Club Hotel, Lambton Quay, on Friday night. Present — The Hon Captain Russel (in the chair), Hon J. M. Orrnond. Messrs W. H. E. Wanklyn, E. D. Bell J. Duthie, M.H.R., A. 3. Parsons, F. R, Jackson, R G Bauchope, H. M. Lyon. C M. Gasquoine, C. J Griffiths and F. D. Luckie (secretary). The Dunedin Jockey Club was not represented. Captain Russell moved ' That the draft rules of the constitution of the New Zealand Jockey Club be adopted. ' A telegram was read from the Auckland Racing Club asking that the Conference be adjourned to the Summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club. On its being shown that the date proposed by the Auckland Club would be inconvenient to many delegates, it was moved by Mr Bell and carried, That the question of the adoption of the rules and constitution ot the New Zealand Jockey Club be postponed till the meeting of the Conference, to be held in Wellington on a date convenient to the Summer Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club. The rules for the registration of trainers, jockeys and apprentces, on the motion of the Hon J D. Ormond, were added to the Rules of Racing. The motion from the Canterbury Jockey Club, That the 1A per cent Government tax should be deducted from the 10 per cent charged by the Clubs, was postponed until the next meeting of the Conference, and the chairman was asked to reply to the Colonial Secretary's circular. Rules for the regulation of hunt club race meetings, moved by Mr Freeman Jackson on behalf of the Wanganui Jockey Club, were agreed to.

A deputation from the Manawatu and other country racing clubs ' v-aited on the Conference, and asked that country clubs should be represented on metropolitan committees. It was left to the chairman to reply to their request. Letters from the Reefton and Greymouth Clubs, asking for the reduction of the amount of the added money required to be given by clubs holding two meetings in the yeai' from £300 to £200 per diem, were" read, and it was resolved that the Rules of Racing could not be altered to suit the convenience of any particular club. The meeting then adjourned until a day in January next, to be notified at a future date. — N.Z. Times.
