Horowhenua County Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held at Otaki on* Saturday. Present— Messrs Kebbell (chairman), Tompsitt, Cridland, Atkins and Bills. Crs Best and Davies were granted leave of absence.

Amongst the correspondence read were letters from Mr H. F. Haselden, on behalf of Shannon Committee, requesting the Council to take . ihe necessary steps to acquire sections 486, 487, 489, containing 5 Acres, now owned by Mr J. CrowtherJ - for the purpose of a cemetery, — The Council considered that the price asked for $he land was too high, and. no action was taken. '

Mr G. N. Wood, Shannon, with regard to fencing standing ou land recently taken for road purposes, pointing that the fence had just been erected, and that, instead of removing it at present, it be. allowed to remain till it decayed, when ifc could be put on the proper boundary.

On the motion of Or Sitncox, it was resolved, That the fence standing on land recently taken for road purposes by the Council at Otawei'e, Shannon, be allowed to remain during the pleasure of the Council ; the new fence, when erected, to bo placed on the proper boundary.

From same, drawing attention, to state of the stream running along the north side of the Shannon township boundary, and on the west of the railway line.

From same, stating that Mr T. C. Williams was cutting a new water/ way for the creek through sectibh 619, and as this deviation would cause the water to flow over his property, he asked the Council,, to VJ prevent Mr Williams proceeding l any further with the work. .. . :{4 .-,- , It was decided to obtain i legal" ' advice as to the. position, $ f Council in the matter.
