Foxton State School Athletic Sports.

The athletic sports in connection with the Foxton State School were held on the school grounds on Tuesday afternoon. These sports were originally instituted by Mr Stewart, the present Head Master, some ten years ago, but soon after his removal to Cambridge they fell into abeyance somehow, and have been revive il only this year. We are biit redordirig the opinion loudly expressed by all on the ground on Tuesday when we say that this latest celebration of these little Olympic Games was a very remarkable success, and it is to be hoped that they may become an annual event in the history of the school. Mr Stewart was, as usual, indefaticable in his exertions to bring the affair to a successful termination, and in this he was eminently assisted by Mr T. P. Williams (starter), Messrs Bradcock and Little (judges), and Messrs W. Stansell and B. Gray (handicappers). The members of the Boys' Committee were W. Symons, H. Williams, B. Gray, D. Purcell and W. Gillespie. These, under the supervision of Mi Stewart, had drawn up an excellent programme consisting of no less than 87 events, but as the committee brought every race off with commendable promptitude and the arrangements were perfect the meet ing was concluded in good time and without a single hitch As will be seen from the appended statement of results, no class in the school was overlooked, suitable events being provided for girls as well as boys, and for the youngest as well as for the oldest children attending the school. Mr Stewart desires us to express his thanks specially to Messrs T. P. Williams, H. Bradcock, W. Little and W. Stansell for the invaluable help, to the School Committee for their kindly encouragement, the Chairman, E. S. Thynne having courteously accepted the position of President of ihe Sports' Committee, and to the townspsople generally who manifested their interest in the welfare of the school by their presence on the grounds throughout the afternoon.
