The plans and specifications to be in by 22nd November. Cr Austin said he seconded the matter pro forma. It was almost an unnecessary expense, especially if some arrangement was come to with Mr Nye. He moved that the matter stand over. Cr Williams said he had heard that Mr Nye had paid so much for the land and he wanted three times as much more. He considered it was no question how much was paid by Mr Nye, but it was far cheaper to pay £15 for the land to Mr Nye than ; to do anything else to the road. Cr McPherson said the cheapest way for the ■ ratepayers was to give Mr Nye the. £15t a» otherwise it would cost £60. '■: ' Cr Nye said he thought the committee would have brought up some report. .^Tljere had been no bargain made and no offer. His only remark was that he supposed it would.' be wortb/;CIS. . • • It was decided to let the matter stand over to next meeting. Mr Lewis, of Lord & Lewis waited on the Council. He had lodged an account for a progress payment and the Mayor wanted to know when he would be able to continue the work. Mr Lewis stated that they were waiting for the maohine at present being used in Wanganui. It might be a fortnight or three weeks before it could be obtained. He said that there need not be any fear that they wanted to give the work up, as he considered they had too much to lose, and he believed they were very near water. If the Council did not ■wish to give any money all ha could say was " don't," but it would be very useful.
