Racing Club's Dinner.

The second annual dinner of tha Foxton Racing club was held at MrBorder's hotel on Thursday evening. The chair was occupied by the Vice-President and the two vicechairs by Messrs McMillan and T, P. Williams. There was a fair at- , tendance of the members, but the rough weather prevented a number of invited guests from being present. The only three who appeared were . Messrs Russel, E. G. Cox and Cap-; tain Harvey. After the excellent spread was dona , full justice to, the table was cleared ' and a very musical evening enjoyed, as there were a number of members who possessed good voices and they enjoyed the able accompanyment on the piano of Mr M. J. Ennis. As it was simply a private gather* ing the songs sung are not necessarily recorded, though we may mention that Mr Russell kindly favoured the oornpany with Mr Jude's song of" Home Boys Home," which was enthusiastically ap* plauded. Every interest was made the fab* jeot for a speech, and in some cases ably responded to, and the general feeling was evidently in favour of the club holding the annual dinner. The host, Mr Border is not only good in his special line, but is also an amusing rhymster and in acknowledging a toast, replied in rhyme, in which the names of the vicepresi- . dent, Messrs McMillan, Young, and Rhodes were very aptly introduced. The meeting can honestly be said to have been a great success and to have been enjoyed by all. We will just mention that the din* ing room attached to the Foxton Family hotel is the finest in town, being capable of seating nearly one hundred and lofty in proportion. The viands were not only the best of their kind but were supplied hot and excellently cocked, whilst the liquors were of the best brands. The Menu Cards printed in colours at the Manawatu Herald Office were much 1 admired and a word of praise is due

to Mr W. Cook ? the printer, for his J work. The cards contained a notice to each mem her to retain it as a j memento of the occasion and the } offer was gladly availed of. i The Honorary Secretary of the ; club and the Dinner Committee, (Messrs T P. Williams, Ahem and Thynne), also have to be credit^ , with a portion of the happy results obtained,
