A New Coal Seam.

A new and valuable seam of : coal has been discovered at Brutmerton, near Greymouth. The Grey Biver Avgus thus describes it:— Jt is very gratifying news to Jearn that a 'new seam of coal has been discovered on the property of the Brunrier 06al Mining Company at Brunnerfcon. The principal facts of the affair 'are these : Higher up the face of the mountain, above the mouth of tHe mine, and beyond where the houses or works are erected, Mr Bishop sttw surface indications which gave him 1 reason to believe that a regular Beam ot coal ought to be found not far off. Men -were accordingly put on, and' a shaft sunk; obbut 40 feet, when a seam of coal Bft 6in thick was come across. The: quality of the coal is described as the same as what oame from the opening of the Brunner seam. Below the layer of ccal is a well-defined layer of fire-olay, which also pos* Besses considerable value. Those who pretend to some technical knowledge in these matters say that the seam is merely what is known asthjahigh seam of the Brunner mine.' In any case a well-defindd seam of the kind described is likely to be continuous, and therefore of great value, either at present or in the . future.
