Sandon items.

(FROM OUB OWN CO-RESPONDENT.)

Tne -chief topic of conversation this week has been the weather. We have had several heavy downpours and the creeks and small watercourses have overflowed, the water being across the road several feet deep in places, bufc I have not heard of any actual -damage being done, although some of the farmers with low-lying ground are a bit anxious about their lambs.

Mr Charlie Brooks, well known as guard of the tram for the past three years, returned to his home in Mauriceville last Monday. Several of his young friends met and bade him a hearty go6d bye, they also made him a small presentation. Charlie was, I think, one of the founders of the Prince Albert Assembly Club, which has flourished for the past two winters in Sanson, and many a pleasant dance have they given in our pretty little Town Hall, of which we are all so proud. I nptice Mr R. G. Edwards, well known as the popular secretary of the. Sandon. Racing Club, has " gone up one " in the Rangitikei Cavalry ile is now Ist Lieutenant, and at a recent exam, made such a a creditable pass that he holds a Captain's certificate. Talking of examinations, Messrs Bindon and Spencer put the Sanson School children through their facings last w.ek. The percentage of passes in Standard VI, 111, and. l was 100, and the average passes 92-9 per cent of number presented. This not so dusty, and Mr Washington Stewart can lay the flattering unction to his boul that during the six months he had charge of the children he kept their heads clear in spite of the influenza.
