A Wanganui Divorce Case.

A rather strange story was told in the Divorce Court, Wellington, in the case of Finnimore v. Finnimore, a wife's petition. The parties were married in Wellington, respondent being then a clerk in the Oriental Bank, at Wanganui. He afterwards entered into business as auctioneer, and afterwards removed to Wellington.. He sent for. his wife to join him in September; 1882, but a fort-' night later sold Off everything with a view, he alleged, to make a start at Melbourne. He did leave for Mel. bourne and his wife heard from him three months later, but he then disappeared. Recently Mrs Finnimore made the acquaintance of a Miss Pearce, not long out from England. On comparing notes, Miss Pearce and Mrs Finnimore came to the.conclusion that the latter's missing husband was identical with a Major Finnimore who had married her cousin, Mary Jane Pointing, in London, in 1891, and, after living with her for a couple of months, had disappeared and had not sinoeV been heard of. Major Finnimore had represented himself as 48 £«ata of '.age and as having been through the' New Zealand and other wars, un& <juite won the heart of Miss Pointing, a spinster possessing means, and aged about 50. His wife says that this was a common trick of his, and thaji he was really 55 years of age. Photographs of the London Finnimore were procured and identified by Mrs Finnimore. The Chief Justice granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute in three months.— Herald.
