To-Night's Entertainment.

« >- The entertainment tonight is held to pay a slight compliment to one who for so many years did his level best to forward the interests of the town- Mr J. R. Eussel was always ready to take his share of the work or play going, and he was a promi* nent figure at any meeting, concert, or charitable movement. Circunv stances having occurrod which prevented him from remaining amongst us longer, it was felt to be ungracious if some public action was not taken to show him that the residents not only appreciated his services in the past, but really regretted his leaving the town- Dinners were voted unsociable, as ladies neither cared for or appreciated them and would not be induced to attend, and it was admitted that the ladies were as anxious to have a share in tendering a compliment to Mr Eussell as much as the gentlemen were. A concert and a farce were therefore determined on, and to-night we hope and expect so see a real good house. The concert, as will be seen by the published programme, promises to be an excellent one, and worth the whole cost by itself. The farce is stated to be remarkably funny, and as the actors are now almost " old stagers " we may expect the^ piece will be not only well put on"^ but also well played, < The Foxton Brass band have promised to play, in the Main street, some selections prior to the opening overture at the hall. The promoters and all who are taking part in the entertainment have been working hard and we . trust that their efforts will meet with their full reward.
