Something about a Horse.

Amongst the residents of this town there is a man who puts an occassional sum upon the totalisator. He does not do it often or successfully, and having met with bad luck he looked into the matter and imagined that the horse that had the longest neck was the one who had most chance to win. On this he has acted with varying fortune. In an April number of Scraps he will observe an illustration of a horse just up to his mark, produced by most uncommon means. Farmer Green purchased an old crock for 1 rough work and attached him with a rope round his head to the back of his dogcart, in the shafts of which was a fast going mare. The pace improves after starting and when the farmer puts the mare to her best, the contortions of the crock placed behind are ridiculous. " More speed " lengthens the neck, " thirty miles an hour " considerable lengthens it, and on pulling up Green exclaims " Well, I'm jiggered I What i shall Ido with it ?" Then a good idea, as it appears, strikes him and he determines to exhibit the animal as half giraffe, half horse. Our friend would have selected this animal as against all blood had he been entered for a race.
