Tennis

A meeting was held at Whyte's hotel on Wednesday evening to consider the advisability of forming a Tennis Club.

A very good attendance was present and Mr W. Stewart was voted to the chair.

It was proposed by Mr Nixon and seconded by Mr 0. Kobinson, That a tennis club be formed to be called the Foxton Tennis Club— Carried.

I'he followirig names were then handed in as members, viz ; Messrs Stewart, Steele, McMillan. W. Stansell, Cowles, Curtis, o. Robinson, Nixon, Howard, Potter, Rhode 3 and Dr Dermer.

Proposed by Mr McMillan, seconded by Mr Nixon, That the subscription forgentlemen be one guinea per annum — Carried.

Proposed by Mr McMillan, seconded by Mr Rhodes, That the annual subscription of ladies be 10s 6d but that where more than one lady of a family wishes to join such extra lady cr ladies to pay only five shillings each per annum — Carried.

Proposed by Mr McMillan, seconded by Dr Dermer, That the following gentlemen be a committee to canvas for members, to arrange about tenders for putting down one or two earth courts on the lines of letter received from Mr Cook. The committee to report to meeting to be held at 8 o'clock in Whyte's hotel on Monday 23rd May. Committee Messrs Curtis, Rhodes, Steele, Dermer and Stewart — Carried.

Proposed by Mr Rhodes, seconded by Mr Nixon, That the offer made by Mra McMillan in her letter to Mr W. Stewart of May 18th for the lease of sections 25 and 30 Ravensworth place Foxton at five pounds per annum for three years be accepted—Carried.' Resolved that' Mr Rhodes be secretary pro tern.

The meeting then closed with the usual vote to the chair.
