Manawatu Rowing Club.

The first heats for Hunter's Cup were rowed off on Thursday and Friday. On 'Ihursday evening the water was all that could be desired and the competitors kept well to time there being no delay whatever. Owing to an accident Lewis had to scratch which' gave his opponent Nye a bye. Shadbolt also secured a bye owing to Hodgson being unwell.

In the third heat between Edwards 12secs, and Foster 25secs, the latter made good use of his start but was soon overhauled by Edwards who won as he liked.

The fourth heat was also uninteresting as Langley with ssecs start from Co/vies proved himself far too last for the latter, andXwon by four lengths.

Cook 17secs, and Eure 25secs, was the last race of the evening. Eure got a good start and maintained a lead throughout, eventually winning by a length and a half.

Friday evening the water was fairly good and the racing more interesting. The first heat, Murray Thompson 12secs, and McLennan 2Oseos, this race' was expected to be a good one as the competitors have not been seen racing here before. A good start was inade»but the steering of both was rather wide, on ■rounding the buoy they were almost on even terms but on passing the wharf Thompson led by half a length, when McLennan had the misfortune to strike the ground and thus lost some distance, he however spurted and got close on to his opponent when he again got into shallow water but made another gallant spurt which brought him half a length behind Thompson when the post was passed. •

Imrie was allowed a bye as his opponent Blake did not put in an appearance.

Stansell having scratched .Potter was also allowed a bye

The race between Symons Bros was a very good one but the handicappers found they ha 4 allowed 0. Bymons to much (18secs) from J. Syinons, the latter however pulled well and caught up a good distance on his opponent, who won by four lengths.

Mr J Birchley on Thursday and Mr W. Foster on Friday kindly acted as starters, ».

The following heats have been drawn for next week's racing : —
