Manawatu Rowing Club.
The annual swimming races of the above club took place last week, but owing to the unfavorable weather were not so interesting as last year. In the 75 yards there were seven starters. The handicappers found they had been too easy with G. Edwards in allowing him 3 sees start from Curtis scratch as he won as he liked with G. Walls second and P. Curtis third. The 50 yards race for which a fresh handicap jwas made was another easy win for Edwards who this time started fiym scratch. The race for second and third places in this race was a very close one between Hamer, Dermer and Curtis, who finished in the order named. Owing to the unfavorable weather a number who entered did not start. Edwards having won two heats did away with the necessity of the 100 yards. The prize is a silver medal presented by the club. The heats for Hunter's Cup will be rowed off on Thursday and Friday next weather permitting and will be continued on the same days next week. The Club's flag will be hoisted at the shed on the day races are to take place.
