The Weather.

■ ♦ The glass has been very low for more than a week now, and every twenty four hours we have been threatened with rain On Saturday morning in Wellington there was a storm of wind, rain, thunder and lightning. At Oamaru on Monday a great gale began, and heavy floods experienced, the Kurou bridge over the Waitake, and the bridge' over the Marawhenua at. Duntroon, were washed-' away. The Kakanui Valley was a vast sheet of water and 'sheaves, cattle > horses, and sheep /were being | carried to the sea. The/ river was a mass of floating sheaves, and the farmers in the valley must have suffered severely. The floods have teen the severest experienced since 1868. Over threefourtbs of the grain in the district has been lost, the greater portion |being in stook, although the farmers 'generally have taken every opporkr tunity.of stacking. The rain has i laid a good many of the standing I crops, which will have to be cut into back delivery machines. If the rain which has partly ceased, is followed by a strong cold wind, the crops will not suffer great damage, but if followed by hot weather, the result will be much damage. Heavy rain was experienced at Christchurch. At Timaru there has been 30 hours' heavy rain and it is feared the crops will be much damaged. The floods of the Taieri near Dunedin has done muchdamage." The Taieri Outram bridge is expected to be carried away.
