Manawatu County Council.

♦ The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the County Office yesterday at 11 a.m. Present - The Chairman (V. C. Ransom), Crs McKenzie, Robinson, Mitchell, Masters, Hammond, and Saxon. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — INWARDS. Gr. Pike, requesting to be charged for rates on section 10 A in place of Andrew Campbell. J. Wright Stewart, stating he intended making an effort to form a company to take over, the Tramway. Mercuiy, asking for a share in the advertising. From Hospital Board re David Young. H. W. Brabant, R.M., stating he would hold enquiry for the Aorangi bridge on the 12th February at 10 a.m. W. Sandilands, stating he had been instructed by Ruera te Muku, as successor to one Takana te Eawa, to apply for compensation for the use of a piece of land running from the Awahuri road to the Oroua river. J. Wright Stewart, explaining delay in /getting survey of the Kari Kara road passed. Audit Office, "returning balancesheet for half year ended 30th September, 1891,' as parsed. T. Carruthers, asking to he rated for section r 266, Awahuri, in place of i Andrew Campbell. Henry G. Stewart, asking to be rated for section 266, Awahuri, in place of Andrew Campbell. OUTWAKPS. W. H. Howe, sending cheque for ferry house at Moutoa. J. Dafter, re injury to horse, Stating that Council did not recog-, nise any claim. Horowhenua County, asking what steps shall be taken about sale of old Shannon punt. F. Bassett, informing hiui that he was killing without a license, and unless application was sent in by next meeting, action would be taken to recover fees, &c. Horowhenua County, offering the actual cost of fencing on mill road at Otaki if supported by vouchers. treasurer's report. I County fund account was overdrawn £58 18s 6d. Nett credit balance on all the accounts, £497 14s sd. The following resolutions were agreed to : - Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr McKenzie, That the name of G. H. Stewart for section 266, Awahuri. the name of Thomas Carrnther for .seption 189 Awahuri, and the name of G. Pike for section 10 A Awahuri, be placed on rate roll in place of Mr A. Campbell. The Council were of the opinion that tLey could not see their way to advertise in the Mercury, as requested by the Manager of that paper. Cr McKenzie moved, That an order for admittance to the Rotorua Sanatorium be granted to David Young in terms *>f Government regulations. : He said the Manawatu Hospital Board were willing that permission should be granted, but that he thought the whole arrangements should be made through the Wanganui Board, as at present they bad had all the money from the district. As the Council had contributed much more in Charitable Aid than hjld? ever been returned, he thought they' could makg this request in good part. Cr Hammond seconded the resolution, and on it being put was carried. Proposed by Cv Robinson seconded by Cr Hammond, That a surveyor be employed to define the road beyond the Oroua Downs block towards the Oroua bridge Proposed by Cr McKenzie seconded by Cr Robinson . That Mrs Scott be asked if she is willing to carry on the ferry under the same arrangements as the late Mr Scott did. Cr Mitchell brought up the matter of yards at Shannon ferry. Mr Venn had asked him why nothing had been done. He had since gone into the matter with the overseer who estimated the cost at much the same price he had. The present ferryman was willing to do the work at the estimate. . The question was whether tenders should be called. The chairman thought tenders should be called. Proposed by Cr Master seconded by Cr Robinson, That tenders be called for metalling 33 chains on Wilson's line. Tenders to be in by next meeting. Proposed by Cr Robinson seconded by Cr Mitchell, That the overseer lay out the necessary work on the Main Drain road at the Oroua bridge as arranged. Tenders to be in by noon of next meeting.

Proposed by Cr Mitchell, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the Overseer be instructed to prepare plans and • etc., for yards at Shannon ferry. That tenders be in by next meeting of this Council for the said work. The overseer's report was read and ended in stating that all the roads in the County were in good order. Cr Masters objected to such a statement as he considered that Frecklington's line was in a disgrace^ ful state. This Cr McKenzie agreed with. The following tenders were received : — Bwainson's Line: : Metalling 54 chains. R. Bowler, jr., £1 18s 6d, per chain ; F. L. Behrnt. £2 15s ; F. Renk, £1 18s ; E. Morris, £2 7s 6d. Formation Oroua Bridge Road, J. Anderson, 14s lid, per chain" ; T. Cook, 15s; J. Sutarfc, 18s 6d,' T. Young, lump sum, £95 4s; R. McEee, lump sum, £92 8s 6d. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the tender of John Stuart for the Oroua Bridge road at 18s 6d per chain and of R. Bowler for Swainson's line at 88s 6d per chain be accepted. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Saxon, That the Overseer -be instructed to get 8 or 4 culverts repaired and one small bridge made wider on Frecklington's line without further delay. Proposed, by Cr McKenzie, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the Overseer be instructed to repair bridges burnt on Taylor's road and Main drain road and to request those liable for the damage to pay the cost of same. Proposed by Cr Mitchell, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the Overseer be instructed to call for tenders for stumping and forming ten chains more or less on road line leading from Shannon ferry road, also removing earth at cutting at ferry. Tenders to be called for the next meeting of Council. Proposed by Cr Mckenzie, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the Chairman be instructed to ascertain the cost of drain pipes of various sizes. The following accounts were passed for payment : — E. G. Cox, £12 10s ; Ins. on building, £8 15s; Advocate, £2 8s 9d; M. Times, £1 9s 9d ; Audit Office, £4 ; Government Interest on.
