♦- ■ - : The following is Spurling's New Zealand hemp market report, dated London, 26th December, 1891 :— &. rather better tone has prevailed in our hemp markets since the departure of the last 'Frisco mail of 28th ultimo. The quantity of New Zealand brought forward at auction has " been small, but the bulk has since been disposed of, together with some further 300 to 400 bales on spot, of middling to fair quality, from £19 10s up to £20 10s For really good and fine (especially high coloured), exceptionally high rates have been given, partly for the trade, but i mostly to cover " bear sales " previi onsly made. Commencing at £22 5s to £28 10s for good and fine, i prices the last few days have again i rallied, and £24 10s has been paid > on spot for small parcels of extra quality. Our market closes firm, : fine to extra, £24 to £24 10s ; good , to fine, £'22 to £28; fair to good fair, . £20 to £20 10s ; middling £19 10s to £19 15s. For arrival there has been i an improved demand during the past , week, and from 100 to £150 tons ! Wellington at £10, and 100 tons Aucklaud at £19 to £19 15s, o.i.f. are also partly sold. Arrivals of New Zealand hemp since last mail 1 are— Otaki, Blenheim, Kaikoura and ' Nelson, with 5464 bales. Sisal.— The last few days has met with an improved demand, fair on spot £21, good £22 ; 500 bales good reported to-day £22 ss. Prices current.— Wellington, fine to extra, £22 10s to £24 ; good, £21 to £21 10s ; good middling to fair, £19 10s to £20 10s; common to middling, £18 10s to £19 10s ; low and ordinary (nominal), £18. .
