Seventh— The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected , according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1.143, for an amount of £438,---97©, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth — The receipts from interest and rents wore £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The. cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summari sed as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,I 000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. 1 It has divided among the members j cash bonuses aggregating over I £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £8,000,000.
