It niay be sa-isfaotory for them to learn that Mr Gillon sued the Dobson- Kennedy Com pany for £20 for similar reasons and o' - tamed judgment.

Mr Gerbes has just completed a handsome mantelpiece. The m in portion is of grained red pine, With white pine panels, In which totara knot dlamon s are placed, ani round wliiiih a hone'ysiickle moulding js fun. I?he brackets are carved, and the mantle is of two inch totara. The whole reflects the highest credit on Mr Gerbes, and shows that he is a thorough cabinetmaker. The price charged is very reasonable, and we expecc that this work will lead to many orders. We shall be glad to show the mantel-piece to any interested in good workmanship. The Wellington A- * P. Burns, acting-chairman, moved the adoption of the report declaring an H per cent, dividend, He said the company had to compete : with imital'ons of its goods which were not of the best quality. He concluded by saying that if the mills only went in for ehe very best quality it would be better for the country than at present, as the tariff was doubled. This is cheerful news to consumers ! The tariff has been doubled and yet more protection is wanted by the Wellington mill. Tenders are invited for the right of advertising on telegraph and telephone poles throughout New Zealand. The Examiner says : — It is believed that Messrs Nelson Bros are storing largely in London in anticipation of a. rise in frozen meat. A prospectus is in circu'ation of a company with a capital of £12,000 for the purpose of publishing the Wairarapa Star ' as an evening paper in Wellington (making the third) in the Liberal interests, while maintaining its publication in the Wairarapa- says the Emmim-i'.. The Pall Mall Ourxifc gives the following cure for influenza : — " Ainmoniated tincture of quinine, £03 ; essence of peppermint, }ov, ; bromide of ammonium, 4oz ; spirit of sweet nitre, Jo?, ; simple syrup (made by boiling lib lump sugar in half pint of water), Joa, Shake the mixture, occasionally until all the bromide is dissolved, Take a teaspoonful in two table? spoonfuls of oold water every hour until relieved."
