The news is confirmed that a Russian expedition in the Pamir district held Captain Younghuaband, leader of a British exploring party, prisoner until he signed papsra promising to avoid certain passes in the country. Russia has ceased the construction of the Siberian .railway, owing to a lack of funds. The Due D'Orleans has retained Mr Geo. Lewis to conduct his defence in the divorce suit in which he has been made co-respondent. It is reported the Great Powers will seize Shanghai and detain the Customs' revenue in the event of tha Chinese Government further delaying payment of the indemnity for the recent outrages.
A witness examined before tha Royal Labour Commission deposed that the Unionists devoted £5000 of
the moneys collected in Australia in
fighting the masters, and the money had not heen nr.cd in the direct relief of the dockoi's, for which purpose it was contributed. Replying to a remark made by Mr Goschen, Mr Gladstone denied that he had anything whatever to do with the Boulogne conference.
