The site for the new hotel is now t xca. vated and the framing is being laid out ready to be put togeth r. The Foxton Racing Club had determined to avail themselves of Mr S. Powell's services as starter for their summer race meeting, but as the Wei ington Eacing Club persists in holding a meeting on the same day, Mr Powell feels himself more bound to them, and has therefore intimated that he cannot be present at the Foxton meeting. The ocal Club would therefore have been seriously inconvenienced had it not been for the assistance rendered by Mr Hugh Gillies, who has kindly consented to tak'i that difficult duty. Mr Gillies has so frequently acted for the Club, in past years, in this capacity, and has always given so much satisfaction, that no step would have been taken to have supplanted him, had he not left the town. It is therefore a matter of much congratulation to know, that though the Club will not have Mr Powell, they will have Mr Hugh Gillbs, nnd he is entitled to the best thanks of the Club for thus so graciously filling up the gapMessrs Stevens & Gorton hold their regular 8a c at Bulls on Tuesd y next.
