Palmerston Hospital.
A meeting of delegates from the various local bodies in the new hospital districts was held at the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday afternoon. There were present — The Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Park, Colville, Cohen, Rush' Edwards, Nye, Taylor and Grant. The Mayor said the meeting had been called for the purpose of furthering the work of construction of the Palmerston North Hospital. Before the work could be proceeded with, certain amounts of money were required, and he would suggest that subscription lists ho circulated amongst the various local bodies with a request that donations be canvassed for. The amount of afc present available was*. -On deposit in Union Bank of Australia, £275, interest£ 14 —£289. In Post Office Savings Bank, £200, with interest £87 10s —£237 10s. Net proceeds sale of reserve at Terrace End, £879 lis, less due Borough's fund for advance, £18 18s 6d— £36o l.'s 6d. Special contributions— Masonic service, £11 12s 4d : Mr D. Grant's assessor's fee, chargeable to Council, £!5 15s — £27 7s4d. Total- £914 9s lid. Some £700 or £800 beyond fchat was required at the very least, for if decided to erect a building at a cost of £1800, a sum of £300 would be necessary for furnishing and various equipments. As to the business that day, it would be necessary to appoint a Secretary, and he suggested that Mr Keeling be appointed temporal}to the position. Designs for the building would also have to be called for, arrangements made for the circulation of subscription lists, and enquiry made as to what use they could make of the Wanganni Hospital until the new Hospital was ready. Mr Edwards drew attentiou to'the fact that tbere was a sum of £400 lying to the credit of the Bu ls Hospital fund in the hands of the trustees, two of wbom were in favour of handing over the money to the new Hospital i oard, on tiie c ndition that they be made life governors of th<? Hospital. This was considered a matter for the new Board to deal wifch. The following motions were carried : — *• That this meeting petition the Governor to proceed with the el ction ofthe new Hospital Hoard. " " That competitive designs b . secured for the Palmer.ten North Hospital, the same to be in ha-ul >. when the new Board is formed for their approval or selection." A liub-comniittee consisting of Messrs Park. Nye and Grant, was appointerl to draw up the ronditions upon wliich these competitive designs should be called.
