Education Board.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board commenced on Friday. The following gentlemen were present — Messrs Carson (in the chair), Sanson, Bridge, Hurley, Baker, Fry, Notman, Beckett, and the Rev Mr Ross. Inspector Bindon was also present.

Appointments. — The Board then went into committee to consider appointments, &c, and on resuming it was reported as follows: — Annie Roberts, - andon, was appointed a cadet-. In response to a request from the Kairanga Committee the further applications for approval, it was decided to send in the names of Messrs Payne, Innes, and Watkins — The resignation of Miss Helen Phyn, Campbelltown, was accepted, and it was resolved to send Mr Mellish as assistant teacher subject to the committee's consent. — Letters were read from Mr H. Woodham, Foxton, and Mr Stansell, as to the latter's exceeding his leave, and it was decided to refer the matter to the Executive to remove Mr Stansell to another school, and at the Aame time the Board expressed itsT disapproval of his exceeding his leave. — Miss B. C. Mason having asked to be removed from Moutoa, it was resolved to ask her for further particulars.—lt was resolved that in consequence of the unsatisfactory results of the recent and previous examinations at Terrace End, the committee of Palmerston North be consulted with a view to terminating the engagement of the head teacher at Terrace End.— lt was decided to advertise for an assistant master for Palmerston North at a salary of £180 and a bonus. — It was decided that the whole of the informal correspondence as to the removal of the Pohangina teacher should be referred back to be sent through the committee. -Alfred Welsh was appointed on probation, and it was decided he should be instructed to come to Wanganui.

The l'oard re-assembled at 10 o'clock the following morning, all the members being present.

Mr Bridge moved, " That the Chairman write to the Education Department protesting against the action of the Government in gazetting a part of this education district into the Taranaki Education District without waiting a reply from this Board." The motion was seconded by Mr G. H. Hurley, and upon being put, and after some discussion, five voted for and foar against, and it was accordingly declared carried. Letters were read from the Ngaire, Cardiff, and the Bird Road -chool Committees protesting against the transfer of that portion of the school district to the Taranaki ; oard, and it was resolved to reply that the Government had taken thematter out of the hands of the Board, by gazetting the alteration in the district. — The opinion of the solicitor of the Board was then read with reference to the Board's position in connection with the schools in the Stratford County now comprised in the Taranaki Education District, and Mr Hurley was asked to deal with the Taranaki Board in the matter.
