Sixth— The Accumulated Fund was increased during the year by the sum of £742,311 equal to Tl per cent of the gross premiums received. Seventh— The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would; have been 1143) for an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eir.HTH— The receipts from Interest and rents were £516,332, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £133,952. Ninth — The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations oi the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,---000,000 in .satisfaction of \ deatli anp matured claims. It has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £8,000,000.
