HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18. The Speaker took ihe chair at 2.30 p.m. Sir George Grey introduced a Law Practitioners hill, similar to the one that had already been thrown out by the Legislative Council. The Premier moved that Mr Rees be elected Chairman of Committee for the remainder, of the present Parliament, believing, he said, that he would give entire satisfaction to the members of the House generally. — Mr Blake moved as an amendment that Mr Gninness be elected to that position.— Mr O'Conor moved that the appointment date from the first day of the ensuing session in order to saiftthe nine months' salary. — After SHfe further discussion Mr Guinness askfed to be allowed to withdraw. —Mr Blake remarked he should not have proposed Mr Guinness if it had nojt been at his own request.- Mr "McQuire nominated Uv Fisher, which was
negatived by 8G to 20, and Mr O'Conor's motion was also lost by 46 to 12. Mr Bees' appointment was then agreed to the voices. The North Island Main Trunk Railway Loan Application Act Bill passed its final _ _^. The w&ulments made in the MunicipaMUorporation 13111 by the Legislative Council (including the insertion of a clause exempting charitable institutions from taxation) was agreed to by 43 to 9. 'J.he House then went into Committee of Supply for the purpose of considering the Estimates.
