Borough Council.
A Special Meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held yesterday afternoon at half-past two to take into consideration the letting of the Public pound and reserves. Two new councillors -•Williams and Stansell — attended and made the usual declaration on taking their seats. Present— The Mayor (T. Wilson Esq.,) Ors Austin, Nye, Stansell, Williams and McMillan. The letting of the public pound was brought up for disoussion. The Clerk read the specifications under which the pound was last let. Cr Austin proposed that the Council go into Committee, -which being seconded was carried. After some discussion the Mayor invited Mr Spelman to address the Council. He asserted that the timber from the old pound was too rotten to use in the new one he has erected. The Mayor said that there was no longer a poundkeepea^wi one must be found. It was permssable to let the pound for a longer term than one year. Cr Stansell moved and Cr Nye seconded, That tenders be called for loosing the pound and reserve No 44 for the term of three years from October Ist, 1891. Tenders to close at noon 28th Sept. 1891. Carried. The Council resumed its ordinary meeting. Cr Williams moved and Cr Stansell seconded, That the reserves No 250 and 488 be let for three years and tenders be called for same to be in by the 28th Sept. 1891.— Carried. Cr McMillan proposed and Cr Nye seconded, That tenders be called for the right of cutting flax on the Borough roads for a term of, three years. Tenders to close on the 28th inst at 2 p.m. — Carried. Proposed by Cr McMillan, seconded by Cr Williams, That Crs Williams, Siansell and Austin form a committee for the purpose of opening and accepting tenders for pound, reserves, and cutting flax, and meet on 28th Sept at 2 p.m. The Mayor proposed and Cr Williams seconded, That consideration of the matter of the Wirikino approaches be postponed till the next meeting of the Council and that the Clerk of Works be instructed to supply such information as may be required to the meeting. Cr Stausell trussed that the Inspector and Cr Nye would report as to how the reduction in the heigth in the flap could be remedied. The resolution was carried.
