The French are furious at the German Emperor's speech at Erfurt, in which he sneered at Napoleon, and accuse him of reviling France for the purpose of hastening the ravanche. The Marques Rudini, Italian Premier, declares that he will not separate his Eastern policy from that of England. The German Emperor is anxious that the birthday of Karl Theodore Korner, the popular German poet and patriot, who in 1813 incited the expulsion of the French, shall be celebrated with enthusiasm on Wednesday next. The Pope has counselled workmen to avoid Socialism, and not to seek to solve social problem apart from the church.
