Mi- Justice Collins has decided that if a combination pass a resolution not to deal with a particular tradesman, it is an offence against the Common Law. The Tipperary tenants of Mr Smith Barry, M.P., accorded him a hearty welcome, and expressed regret for their actions in the past, which had led to the evictions. The Bank of England shows a profit for the half-year of £763,000. A dividend of £5 5s was declared. At the meeting of the Bank of England, Mr W. Lidderdale, the governor, announced that Baring's liability was reduced to £280,000 at the end of August. He also mentioned that no loss was expected to result to the guarantors, and the Bank of England's special liability in the estate was being reduced slowly. New Zealand long-berried wheat is quiet at 445. For cargoes on passage, sellers ask 42s Gd, but buyers offer 425. Stocks of frozen mutton are low. Canterbury, 4 J-d per lb; lamb, Gel; beef, hind-quarters, 4£d. New Zealand hemp is in poor demand, Good quality, £23 per ton ; fair to medium, £21 ss. At the wool sales prices are unaltered. Tenders for the New South Wales 3A- per cent loan of £4,500,000 at 95 opened on the 17th. It was found that only £4,100,000 had been subscribed, but a few brokers took up the balance. There was 380 tenders and the average price is about £95 0s 3d. The average price was £95 0s s }d. There was an unusual number of small tenders, and individual brokers contributed £GOO,OOO, but none of the syndicates subscribed. Both the Berlin and Vienna press regard the manoeuvres at Sigri as a rehearsal, and as a warning to the Porte. Mr P. J Porley, M.P. for Connemara, who was recently summoned before the City Court by the Wandsworth Guardians for neglecting to support his wife, who is in the workhouse, has undertaken to provide maintenance, and the charge has been withdrawn. Newton, a solicitor, has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment foi abduction. Colonel Desmond, who took up Stuart Cumberland's challenge for £1000 to prove theexistence of occult influences, now declares the " Mahatmns " forbid the contest. The Grenadier Guards, who arrived at Dover from Bermudas on 28th -Inly, have returned to their quarters in London, and will take their place on the regular Guards roster. Alexandre Jacques has completed his self-imposed fast of 50 days. Towards the end of the term he suf fered somewhat severely from gout, but to demonstrate that his strength was not materially reduced he carried Mr Kennedy, the mesmerist, twice across the room. During his fast Jacques lost 2H£lb.
