Manawatu County Council.

(Continuation of report.) The Chairman reported that ho had, hi company with the Overseer* seen the road on Mr Hanson's property, and found that it was only half a chain wide. Mr Hanson objected to persons driving stock through his property without giving him notice, and ho said that he would fence the road if the Council gave him notice that they were going to open up the road for traffic Cr Ransom proposed, and Cr Hammond seconded, That the Over seer be instructed to place culverts and bridges on the drains on Sanson's line so as to make it passable for traffic, and that Mr Sanson and Mr Cowper be given notice to remove their fences which are obstructing traffic on their line. - Carried. Proposed by Cr Mitchell, seconded by Cr Robinson, That tenders be called for building large punt for shannon ferry. Tenders to close by noon of the 14th October next. — Carried. Cr Saxon moved, and Cr Masters Beconded, That Mr Prior, as agent for the Bishop of Nelson, be informed that if the gorse complained of be not removed within one month from date, the same will be cleared by the Council and the cost sued for in the R.M. Court, in ten chain sections as each section is completed. Cr Saxon said he brought the matter up again as the pods will soon be opening, and the Council would soon have to clear the half of the road, as the owner opposite had a •wire fence, therefore the Council could hardly call upon him. Cr McKenzie directed attention to the gorse nuisance in other places. The gorse spreading had a bad effect on new comers, lie instanced spots near his fence and down Freckling ton's line. The Overseer ought to get somo spots cleared. The gorse at Campbolltown station also wanted clearing. The resolution was put and carried. Cr Saxon moved, and Cr McKenzie * seconded, r Jhat the Postmasterbo written to and requested to have all the telegraph poles removed on the road known as the Feilding-Awahuri road where likely to be in the way of traffic and dangerous to the public. That a Committee be appointed consisting of the Chairman, Crs Hammond and the mover to decide as to which poles are put up in dangerous position. Cr Saxon said that there were •S or 4 poles only 12 yards from the fence. The road could not be widened as the poles are on the edge the metal. The Chairman said he had noticed how very close to the traffic these poles were. The resolution was carried. Cr McKenzie desired to know whether there was any one who had a tender to supply rations under the Charitable Aid. He instanced a case of a man Young which had been brought under his notice. He gave an order for 4 rations, but found that Mr Anderson had no scale as to what goods should be supplied. 'i ho Chairman mentioned that there was a list of rations, and it Avas as follows: — -Jib bread, fib meat, lib potatoes daily, lib sugar, $lb butter, -tih candles, lib rice or 2lbs oatmeal, and £lb soap a week. The Council thought that any Councillor was justified in giving aid prior to a meeting of the Council. Cr McKenzie moved, and Cr Ransom seconded, That David Young be allowed three rations per week during the pleasure of this Council and that Mr Anderson be informed that in no case must articles be substituted for others of a like value without the sanction of the County Chairman or Clerk.— Carried. Cr Ransom moved, and Cr Saxon seconded, That the action of Cr Hammond in calling tenders for formation on Taipo-Awahuri road be confirmed. — Carried. Tenders were then opened when the Council went injo committee to consider them. Metalling contract — James Munro, Sec. 4, 4£ miles, £20 per mile for 1 year, or £18 por mile each year for 8 years. This was the only tender for any section. Shannon Ferry— Hopkirk Bros., lyr £112; W. H. Howe, 1 or 2yrs, £104 4s 4d ; John Hillary, lyr, £105, 2yrs, £230 ; C. M. Richards, l**2yrs, £91 ss ; J. T. Wells, lyr, iooT'2yrs, £100 ; T.Bowe, 1 or2yrs £76. Formation Taipo-Awahuri road — R. Gillies, £55 11s Gd ; J. Thompson - &> 6d per chain. Proposed by Cr Hammond seconded by Cr McKenzie that the tender of J Thompson be accepted at 8s 6d p?v chain for formation on TypoAwahuri r ad —Carried.
