Last Night's Concert.
We congratulate Mr Little on the success of his management. The concert last night was as good a one as has been given for a long period, and the novelties were much appreciated by the audience.
Miss Short kindly played the opening piece with her well known ability. Mr Little made his first appearance before a Foxton public and sang "I'm king of the ocean wild." Ho has a very sweet voice and sang it with due appreciation of the words. There was just a sound of nervousness during the first part. Mr Little is a decided acquisition to the musical portion of the community. Miss Howan sang " I'll ne'er forget thee" which also evidenced considerable nervousness. This was a pity, as otherwise the singing would have been much enjoyed. Wo trust that she will soon obtain a mastery over this feeling. Mr Eraser's recitation " The Black and Green" was loudly applauded. Miss Williams, with her song " Then you'll remember me" obtained the first encore, which she complied with by singing a verse over again. " For they all love Jack" is a tavourite with Mr Stansell and the public, and his efforts were well appreciated. Mrs Cook sang very sweetly " Sleeping flowers," and the audience gladly welcomed her reappearance on the concert stage. Miss Woodham, a very little girl, very clearly and pointedly recited " ! he Dead Doll."
The ten little negroes were— not immense — as they were just the reverse, but were very laughable. The big brother, Mr Young, intro. during them as some of his relations. This little force went well, and Mr Young's efforts met with much applause.
The second part was noted for the opening piece, a cornet solo " Bon •lour" by Mr Keen, with a piano accompaniment by Mi* Wearing. The performer received a most vociferous encore to which he replied by playing a sailor's hornpipe. The two little Misses AVoodham sang a duet " Alone in the world" and acquitted themselves very well. Mr Gardner save the recitation >l Doom and death" with much feeling and power, and in response to an encore gave the comical " Firing butter." Miss ftymous " The snow that husheth all" was very sweetly sang and deserved fu'ly the warm applause that followed the coir elusion of the song. Mr ; E. Carrie made a sensation by dancing the sailor's hornpipe in a first class style,' and he had to return and repeat a portion. He appeared in full 1 nan -o'- war rig, and was a decided assistance in making the evening's entertainment something out of the common. The Misses Wooclhara and Williams secured an encore for their trio " Just to please the boys." Mr W. Coolc was in better voice than, we have ever heard him before, and he sang " A Vision " with great distinctness and expression. An attempt was made to get a repetition. Owing to Mr Toomath, who had. promised to give a recitation not, ap pearing, Mr .>tansell sang "Daddy" instead. Miss Williams brought the musical portion to a close with her song " For Ever," which was very well rendered.
The " Sale of Live Stock " farce war. put. on for the juvenile portion, and a large number being there " caught on."
The attendance was very fair, and something like T. 9or LlO will be the total from money taken at the door aud tickets sold. However, seeing the large number of children that attend the school the Committee had the right to expect more interest to have been shown by the parents.
