The United States Treasury has demanded the payment ol £7000 duty on Vanderbilt' s yacht, which was purchased in England. The Rev Mr Spurgeon and Mr Justice Hawkins are both worse. Mr Parnell is arranging to bring out " United Ireland" as a daily paper. It is reported that £20,000 worth of watches have been stolen from the South Eastern Railway Company's depot in London. Dervishes are collecting again at Dongola. News has been received of the massacre by Esquimaux of 60 sailors belonging to whaling steamers laid up in winter quarters at the beginning ofthe year. ' : • Wheat has risen one shilling per j quarter. | The Italian rye, wheat, and grape harvests are sp'endid. v The Russian Government has prohibited the export of wheat to a greater extent than 8 per cpnt more than the quantity of rye usually exported. It is estimated this will affect 2, 000,000 quarters of wheat.

JEtat 53. Mr Raikes' death was the result of a slight stroke of lightning received while riding in Hyde Park last month.
