Sixth — The Accumulated Fund was increased during the year by the sum of £742,311 equal to "71 per cent of the gross premiums received. SEVEtoTii—The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to '■ ,£299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the lia^lilies would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth — The receipts from interest and rents were £51@,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth — The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenm — The bash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being nt the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,90*7 policies, assuring £4:9,<4:17 9 717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,---000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. It has divided among the members i ash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £8,000,000.
