The Pope and the Confessional.
I A remarkable mandate was recently I is3ued by the Pope and read in every • Monastery and Convent in France on the last Monday in April. The Pope does not forbid confession, but he forbids what is called the " manifestation of conscience." Superiors are , now prohibited from " directing the consciences " of their subjects, and from questioning them on matters " which are generally re- \ g*^ed within the domain of the gonfegsor." A practice which the ffcffe admits is a " pernicious " one. This practice is now prohibited in all orders of woman all over tha worid and in all orders of men not priests.
