Primitive Methodist Temperance Society.

The usual monthly meeting of this Society was held on the evening of Thursday last in the Chapel. The Rev Robert Rain presided and opened the meeting with the usual devotional exercises and a short address in which he dwelt upon the necessity of preventing the young people from ever tasting intoxicating liquor. The. following programme, was gone through : — Recitation, 1 " Spanish Champion," Fred Spring ; recitation,; " Wine and Water/: Lillie Austin; recitation, " David's lament for Absalom," Nellie : Salter ; dialogue.Mis.ses Alhnan and McLean ; recitation, '«' The 'Signboard'," W. ! Carter; •■sbngi " Dont > go ■ near :the bar room," Mrs A. E. Welsh and Mrs W. Small; reading, "would the prohibition of the liquor traffic in this colony be justifiable," Mr H. .J^qster ; . recitation, ' ? '. One glass fpre, ' ' > Arthji^ Jacobs!;./ s4fe s -?,' - £ v ~ r Collis ; >recitationi Ben," Miss G. Newth ; recitation^, ■" The dog and his master," Emma Spring ; quartette, " Prayi brethren, *prayL n Mrs' W. Small, : Mrs A. ; E . '• Welsh and Messrs Rainfc and Foster ; 'i' We are glad to be able to state that at the close of the meeting a large number of children and adults signed the pledge, thus showing that the temperance cause is still progressing in our little town of Foxton.
