A Threat.
The. " great unpaid " are coming to the front, more especially in print.: We had a law passed a year or two ago that threatened Justices with dismissal if they fail to attend Court when called upon. This has greatly • (?) altered matters down South, . as we learn that the Honourable Mr Shrimski has threatened not to sit again in Court because the Resident Magistrate had not invited him or his brother Justices to sit with him I We do not know yet whether Mr Shrimski asked permission to, sit with the Magistrate, and was refused, but by the way the telegram is worded it appears that his dignity is hurt because the Magistrate had not asked for his assistance) Why should the Magistrate request Mr Shrimski's assistance ? He is qualified to act by himself. Mr Shrmiski states that he desired to sit with the Magistrate so that he could learn something of law and Court procedure. This is surely most peculiar reasoning to urge as a complaint that a qualified Magistrate, had refused to ask for his assistance! It, seems very strange that Mr 'Shrimski.
had so little wit as Id have' publicly refused td act &s a Justice onrthis a.cduhfc, as there must have been room in the Court where he could have obtained a seat and so watched the proceedings) and thtts have learilt a little of tbe law aiid Court procedure. Mr Shrimski is a type of a good many Justices who want all the glory, all the elevation, without the trouble of the necessary laboiir to acquire a knowledge o_ the duties he is supposed to be able to fulfil. It Will jbe. fortunate if he does refrain i from sitting in Court if he is so ig- , norant as he asserts.
