+ The following are the census returns for the various provincial dis--1 tricts, as compared with the returns for the previous census, tateli in 1886:— «ff
• This does not include the light--1 house population on the various \ islands, nearly half of the total increase of the population of the Colony it will be seen, is claimed by Taranaki and Wellington. This quite bears out the Registrar-General's prediction that if there was any abnormal increase in any particular \ district it would be found to be on the West Coast of this island.
