An Important meeting -was held yesterday, Lord. Dunraven presiding at which a society was formed to prevent the influx of destitute aliens into England. Mr Bottoniley, manager of the Anglo- Austrian Publishing Union, has filed a petition in bankruptcy. The liabilities are £350,000, and the estimated surplus £86,000. The Judge has ordered the Anglo Australian Publishing Union to be -wound up. -Mr Bottomley was the vendor, and the Directors received £88,000, out of which they paid large dividends, but never bought or transferred properties. £93,000 has disappeared. The Chancellor of the Exchequer proposes to vary the working of the scheme for the investment of trust funds drawn tip by the Departmental Committee and to submit it afresh to the Agents-General. General Booth has opened a match factory. - l Mr DeCobain, M.P., against whom serious charges are made is in Spain. He alleges he is the victim of a political conspiracy. A cattle drover has been arrested at Kippering, in the State of New York, on suspicion of being guilty of the Whiteehapel murders. News has been received here that the s.s. Mamari, while on her voyage from New Zealand to London, grounded on the Abrolhos, a group of low, rocky islands, off the coast of Brazil. The Mamari left Auckland for London, via Rio, on the 20th March. After jettisoning 15,000 carcases of frozen mutton, which were stored in her forehold, she continued her voyage to Teneriffe.
